1. Define the job for the subscription
Write one sentence about what you want a delivery to solve. Perhaps you want two easier evenings, fewer supermarket decisions, or a way to cook with a partner. Those are different needs. A box that solves one of them may add work elsewhere.
Count the actual dinners you need covered. Include evenings away from home, household members who will not be eating, and food already in your refrigerator. Your best plan size is the one you can use, not the largest introductory discount.
2. Set your non-negotiables
Separate hard requirements from preferences. An allergy or clinician-directed restriction is not interchangeable with a preferred cuisine. Verify ingredient and allergen information with the provider, including any concerns about cross-contact. If a necessary detail is missing, treat that as an unanswered question before you purchase.
3. Review the work involved
Compare dishes using the same kitchen checklist. Recipe time estimates do not tell you how much chopping, monitoring, or cleanup you will do. Look at whether you can prepare components separately and whether the instructions depend on equipment you do not own.
- Ingredients and pantry additions
- Number of pans and appliances
- Steps that require continuous attention
- Packability of unused portions
- Instructions you can comfortably follow
4. Compare a real recurring quote
Use the same number of servings and dinners for each service. Record delivery charges, upgrades, and extras separately from the food price. Keep the promotional quote in a different column. If a box will leave you buying additional dinners anyway, include those in your weekly planning budget.
5. Review after the first delivery
Keep a simple record: recipes cooked, portions used, food discarded, actual effort, and whether the next menu looks useful. Use that record to adjust the box size or skip a week. You do not need a perfect long-term plan before trying a small, manageable routine.
Questions worth asking
Should I order the maximum number of meals to save per serving?
Only if you expect to use them. Compare the total spend and the food you will actually eat.
What if my requirements change?
Recheck the menu and delivery controls each week, and discuss nutrition changes with your care team.
